Christmas Roses

This book review is for the novel "Christmas Roses" by Amanda Cabot.

I will start off by saying that I love Amanda's books and she has a fan in me. This is a cute what I call short story that will get you in the Christmas spirit.

Celia, who is our main character is likable and you will find yourself rooting for her and her small child to get their happily ever after.

~~~~~~~~~~
Celia Anderson is alone, with a small child, and her friends well intentioned hints that she needs to find a daddy for her baby isn't helping matters.
She simply isn't ready to take on a new husband and has no intention of doing so. Her hands are more than full enough with taking care of her baby running a boarding house, not to mention being a babysitter for another small child.
However, even if she doesn't want to admit it to anyone else, to her own self she can admit that she MIGHT consider another husband if she found the right one. The right man who will bring her Christmas roses.
Being as those roses are almost impossible to find, however, her standards are far from being low for a future man in her life.
~~~~~~~~~~

Hope you all have had a Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for bearing with me as I know my last few reviews have been shorter than normal. I am dealing with a broken computer screen at the moment but should hopefully have a new one by some time next week!

The Christmas Pony

This book review is for the novel "The Christmas Pony" by Melody Carlson.

I knew I loved Melody's books before but after reading this sweet Christmas story I love them even more!

If you are looking for a very cute hardback Christmas book to add to your collection then I definitely recommend this one.

I have loved horses since I can remember and have always wanted one so I identified with Lucy for having such a precious wish for herself. I was the girl with all the pony and horse posters so I thought it was especially cute that she drew the pony and made her own homemade poster.

Her childlike faith is inspirational and one we should all strive to achieve for ourselves in our very hectic, grownup and sometimes cynical lives that we live. Lucy is right in that "God can do ALL Things" no matter how big or tiny they seem.

~~~~~~~~~~
Lucy Turnbull is growing up in the hard times of 1937 and even though her mother takes in washing and boarders to help make ends meet for her family of Lucy, herself and her mother, little Lucy still longs for a pony to call her own. When her mother tells Lucy she should pray for boarders to inhabit the rooms upstairs instead of the pony she can't afford to buy or feed, Lucy takes it to heart and prays for boarders as well as for her pony and for the food to feed it.
When one of those prayers are answered the very next day in the shape of two boarders Lucy runs across in town, while running her mothers errand, Lucy's life will be changed forever.
~~~~~~~~~~

Like I said I very much recommend this story!

Hope you are all gearing up to have very happy and full Thanksgivings!

A Promise To Love

This book review is for the novel "A Promise to Love" by Serena B. Miller.

While the cover for this book is very pretty I had a hard time getting into the story at first.

The main guys loony wife freaked me out a little at the beginning but it quickly got better after she was gone.

Serena sets the book up so that you really can't help but feel for the lonely single dad, Joshua and the abused immigrant Ingrid.

The set up of the book is very clever and while it took me a little bit to really get into the story I did end up liking it.

I liked the way that Ingrid was the one to blurt out a proposal and I liked watching them fall in love.

Serena writes very descriptively and helps paint the image of her characters with her words.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Ingrid Larsen is destitute, alone in a strange land and finds herself at the hands of a harsh task master. Regardless of her problems, however, she is determined to find her brother who disappeared into the logging camps.
When her path crosses with a heartbroken single dad who more than has his hands full with all of his now motherless children, she thinks she may have found the answer to both of their looming problems.
~~~~~~~~~~

If you enjoy historical fiction then I think you will like this one.

Flight Of Fancy

This book review is for the novel " A Flight of Fancy" by Laurie Alice Eakes.
It is book 2 in 'The Daughters of Bainbridge House'.

As soon as I realized that Laurie was the one that had written "A Necessary Deception" I knew I wanted to read this book!

Once again this series did not disappoint and I am eagerly awaiting the next one in this series.
Laurie is becoming one of my favorite historical regency romance writers!
I very much loved the cover on this book and very excitedly dug in once the book got here.

Cassandra Bainbridge is almost an unlikely heroine but you quickly come to love her and want her to have her happily ever after. I just loved how Laurie seemed to so effortlessly blend in a lesson amongst the intrigue and romance of this story.
She has pinpointed the way to have a story focus mostly on the main characters but still be able to weave secondary people in without them overwhelming the story. I also really enjoyed the different things involving the ballooning that Cassandra is so interested in. It was very neat to see what it must have been like when these things were first invented and I loved a heroine that had a scientific brain and wasn't afraid to try her experiments for her hobby.

~~~~~~~~~~
Cassandra Bainbridge may not be as straitlaced as she should be but Geoffrey Giles makes her heart pound and her good senses seem to fly out the window when he is near.
Losing sense of her head, however, may make her lose more than she bargained for in the long run.
Different opinions on ballooning is not the only thing that might come between their happily every after.
~~~~~~~~~~

I so recommend this book and urge you to pick it up and read for yourself. And if you haven't read the first book in this series "A Necessary Deception" that one is one of my favorites!

Happy Reading,
Jenny

*Heart Of Gold*

This book review is for the novel "Heart of Gold" by Robin Lee Hatcher.

Robin is a Christy and Rita Award Winner and I can easily see why after reading her novels.

If you like historical fiction you will like this book! And if you are a fan of Robin pick up this book!

~~~~~~~~~~
Shannon Adair felt like she knew her place in life when she was tending to sick soldiers but when she is moved to a very out of the way town in Idaho she realizes that she doesn't know her place anymore.
Feeling lost and alone she isn't sure what she should do with her life until a very ill woman is placed in front of her and she starts caring for her like she did the soldiers. She finally feels again like she has a purpose in life again.
What she doesn't know is that this woman has a brother who will be taking custody of his nephew when his sister passes on and that this plan just might have room for her in the long run.
~~~~~~~~~~

A great story with a lot of emotion and really great writing behind it! Make sure to pick this one up!

New Blog Tour!

I have a treat for you guys! Not one blog tour post but a two in one book review!

The first title is " Queen of the Wave" by Janice Thompson.

This is an American Tapestry book put out by Summerside Press.

First off I love the dress on the girl on this cover, it's so cute!

This book takes you back to the era of the infamous Titanic voyage. My sister is obsessed with all things Titanic so I will be passing this book on to her to read too.

Janice has a very descriptive writing style which compels you to really dive into this story.

~~~~~~~~~~
Pampered doesn't even begin to subscribe Jacqueline Abington and once she decides a marriage to the family gardener then that is exactly what she is going to do and nothing will stop her plan.
Even if that means bribing a poor women to take her place on the maiden Titanic Voyage.
Tessa, the one being convinced to take the voyage feels like she has been handed the greatest opportunity but isn't sure how she feels about assuming another persons identity.
She feels like she is living in a dream as she experiences what it is like to be a spoiled socialite for the first time in her life and is starting to enjoy her time when a wealthy American man takes more than a passing interest in her.
Can she keep up the ruse or will her lies destroy her hope for the future?
~~~~~~~~~~

You guys ready for round two of this book review??

The second title is "Where the Trail Ends" by Melanie Dobson.

It is also  An American Tapestry novel and Summerside publishes this one too.

This title takes us back to the time of the Oregon Trail back in 1842.

Two very different journeys but both so important in our history and I love how descriptive both authors are.

It is really fun to get to dive into this period in history and almost feel like you get to experience it too even though we were all born well past this time.

This book will keep you flipping page after page to see what happens next!

~~~~~~~~~~
Samantha Waldron and her family have set out on one of the most tedious and dangerous journeys that they could have taken on as a family.
They are doing fairly well on their own until a horrible accident occurs and they have to rely on the help of a complete stranger to save their lives before the icy river completely closes in on them.
When Samantha puts her mind to something she is one determined lady so when she decides that she is going to make a home for herself and her brother no matter that she is unattached she fully plans on making that happen. What she didn't plan on, however, was falling for the dashing Alex who saved them.
~~~~~~~~~~

Will she make her home for her brother or will things with Alex pan out in the long run?

Read it and find out for yourself!!!

Meet Melanie:

Melanie Dobson has written ten contemporary and historical novels including five releases in Summerside’s Love Finds You series. In 2011, two of her releases won Carol Awards: Love Finds You in Homestead, Iowa (for historical romance) and The Silent Order (for romantic suspense).

Melanie and her family enjoy their home in the Pacific Northwest. The entire Dobson family loves to travel and hike in both the mountains and along the cliffs above the Pacific.

When Melanie isn’t writing or playing with her family, she enjoys exploring ghost towns and dusty back roads, line dancing, and reading inspirational fiction.

Taming The Wind

This book review is for the novel "Taming The Wind" by Tracie Peterson.
It is Book 3 in the "Land of the Lone Star" series.

I really enjoy Tracie's books but I will admit to feeling a little lost and a bit behind as far as this book went since I had not read the other three. It is still an enjoyable book even if you haven't read the previous two but I would recommend that you try to do so before reading this one as I think it would have made me feel more connected to the story.

I still love her books though and will try to go back and read the first two books to get more of a back story on the characters. That being said though, Tracie does a good job of trying to fill in the blanks of some of the more important points that you would have missed if this is the first one of the series you pick up like me.

~~~~~~~~~~
Carissa Lowe has been handed a rough deal. She is widowed at a very young age with a small daughter to see about and horrible memories of her late husbands brutality. If he had had his way in the end, she would not be alive to be spending the summer with her sister on her sisters farm deep in the heart of Texas and Indian country.
The scars left behind by his betrayal run deep and Carissa doesn't think getting married again will be something she is willing to do but she quickly realizes how much her daughter wants and needs a daddy to call her own. But even with wanting that for her, she isn't sure it's something she can bring herself to do again just for the sake of having a dad for her child.
Enter Tyler Atherton who played a large part in saving Carissa and her sister's life. She is no longer the spoiled girl Tyler once knew and is instead replaced with a grown women who has seen to many hard things in her short lifetime.
Tyler, however, is no secret to deeply buried wounds and hard to forget memories.
With God's help the two might be able to from a family together and help each other forget the awful times and instead build new happier memories together.
The only question is, will they allow the work to be done and let go of their bitterness quick enough to have a happy ending?
~~~~~~~~~~

The Trouble with Cowboys *A Blog Tour*

This book review is for the novel "The Trouble with Cowboys" by Denise Hunter.

It is book three in the "A Big Sky Romance" series.

I have never made it any secret that I am such a fan of Denise Hunter and this book did NOT disappoint.
I was super excited to be able to read it early and actually finished it in one day in one sitting.

I love how descriptive Denise's books are and how quickly you get drawn into the story and the lives of her characters. It is great also to be able to catch up with all the ones that you read about in the first two books.
Don't get me wrong though, even if you have never read the first two you will still enjoy this book and be able to follow along just fine!

~~~~~~~~~~
Annie Wilkerson is the best horse trainer and equine columnist in her small town but even with trying to make sure everything is perfect she rapidly discovers that she can't control everything. That fact becomes inherently clear when her equine column is canceled from Montana Living and her younger sister, who she has always been like a mother to, starts trying ridiculously hard to break free of Annie's over-protecting ways.
Even though Annie is struggling to keep her head above water financially and emotionally she gets a shot at a lovelorn column, which is being put in place of her equine one.
Huge problemo is the fact that Annie has never allowed herself to be in love so she is going to be need a little help from the handsome, smooth talking cowboy she might just feel the need to protect her heart from.
In the end Annie might have to learn to let her prejudice against cowboys go if even just a little bit and learn to let God take the reins more than she has before.
~~~~~~~~~~

Love, love, love this series and can't wait for more books by Denise!!

Check out some fun facts about this great Author:

Denise lives in Indiana with her husband Kevin and their three sons. In 1996, Denise began her first book, a Christian romance novel, writing while her children napped. Two years later it was published, and she’s been writing ever since. Her books often contain a strong romantic element, and her husband Kevin says he provides all her romantic material, but Denise insists a good imagination helps too!

Unending Devotion by Jody Hedlun *A Blog Tour*

This book review is for the novel "Unending Devotions" by Jody Hedlund.
Jody is the Bestselling Author of The Preacher's Bride.

Meet Jody:

Jody Hedlund is the bestselling author of "The Doctor's Lady" and "The Preacher's Bride". She won the 2011 Inspirational Reader's Choice Award, the 2011 Award of Excellence from the Colorado Romance Writers and was a finalist for Best Debut Novel in the 2011 ACFW Carol Awards. Currently she makes her home in central Michigan, with her husband and five busy children. She loves hearing from readers on Facebook and on her blog.

Visit her website: http://jodyhedlund.com/

I haven't ever read anything by Jody before but I am happy to have started with this one!

One of the things I really loved in this book was for me the parallel between the love that Lily has for her lost sister. Without regard for the danger to her own person she searches through logging camps and towns searching for her sister. It reminds me of how God will never give up on us when we are lost.

I also give props to whomever had responsibility for the cover of the book. The cover alone makes you want to pick it up and dive in. Something hauntingly beautiful but with a definite air of mystery.

~~~~~~~~~~
Lily Young is a women with fire in her soul. She has a passion for helping young women who have been forced into slavery even if it means danger to herself. On the way to saving her sister she will help any of the others who want out of the life they seem trapped in.
Heedless to the danger, she poses as a photographer's assistant so she can have access to the logging camps in her desperate bid to find her sister and save her.
During one such assignment she comes across a man named Connell in a rather unusual way.
Even though she is hard to take sometimes she helps open his eyes to things going on right under his nose so that he can confront the truth and take action the way she does.
But even though it may be right what she's doing is dangerous and may just come at a very high cost.
~~~~~~~~~~

I give this book two thumbs up and Jody as well! It sucks you into the story and the characters lives right from the first page. Poetic and beautiful until the last word.

With Every Letter

This book review is for the novel "With Every Letter" by Sarah Sundin.

Anyone who is a fan of Sarah's work will enjoy this book for she has done it again! A great read especially if you like the historical period of WWII.

Not only is Sarah's writing eloquent and descriptive but this book is a beautiful love story.

~~~~~~~~~~
In a time of war when home fronts have had their husbands, sons, uncles and cousins ripped away for the horror that is war, men face battle weary and lonely looking for even a small bright spot in their very gray days.
One way it was sought to provide this for them was an anonymous, morale building, letter writing exercise pairing a woman with a man to correspond and bring some brightness to the otherwise bleak world they found themselves trapped in.
This very thing which Lt. Mellie Blake very reluctantly takes part in is the very thing that could help change her life forever.
The feeling of anonymity involved in this helps Mellie and Tom, a man who has been trying to escape the infamy that has trailed him for years, to connect in a unique way.
Neither having to reveal their true names brings them closer as they send their letters flying back and forth.
In the end though a choice will have to be made. Will they be strong enough to reveal who they are really are to each other or will they never lift that curtain of secrecy?
~~~~~~~~~~

You will have to read and find out what our two lovebirds decide! Sarah has done great research and you can easily envision the time and places she is depicting in this novel!

Hope you all have a fabulous start to your week!

Tidewater Inn A Hope Beach Novel Blog Tour!

This book review is for the novel "Tidewater Inn" by Colleen Coble.

If you are looking for an intense mystery type of book then this is the one for you!

I don't normally read mystery's and this one kept me on the edge of my seat from almost the first page!

Not only do you keep trying to figure out just what is going on but Colleen has a very descriptive way of writing her scenes. You almost feel a part of the story since she makes it so easy to envision it all.

Just reading the back of the book will help you understand what I am talking about.
Colleen has a definite way with words and does it with descriptive flair.

~~~~~~~~~~
Libby is not exactly living a dream life. While she has a job she loves restoring old houses and a business partner to care for the money side of things, she currently has $200 in her bank account.
All of that changes in a flash and all it took was one phone call from her friend.
Apparently the father she thought died when she was 5, didn't. He so much didn't as a matter of fact that he only died one month ago and in doing so willed his property, a beautiful old hotel on the Outer Banks, to Lilly.
If that wasn't enough of a shock, she discovers that she also has an Aunt she never knew as well as a brother and sister.
While she is delighted with the ideal of family, they see her as the one trying to steal what they believe to be their birthright.
Shortly on the heels of this news her best friend is kidnapped before her very eyes and Libby falls under suspicion for the crime.
Not to mention the fact that one of the men responsible for looking for her friend, a very handsome Coast Guard lieutenant could very well be the man her heart has always longed for.
If she doesn't find a way to prove her innocence in all of this she stands to lose it all before she's fully even come around to the ideal of it.
~Over The Edge~ A Kincaid Brides Blog Tour
This book review is for the novel "Over the Edge" by Mary Connealy. It is the third book in 'The Kincaid Brides' Series.
One of the first things I really loved about this book is the cover. It has such a beautiful setting you can imagine yourself standing there right along with our two main characters.
For me, one of the biggest draw ins or immediate turn offs is the cover of a book. It seems like the story should matter more and while in the greatest sense it does matter more since that is, after all, why we read a book, the cover is such a huge part of it as well.
If I am browsing through a store looking for a new read that colorful cover that somehow speaks part of the story is what is going to draw me in enough to pick up the book and see what the actual story is about. And that right there is the crucial part for all writers, getting someone interested enough to even take a minute to see what your story is about.
Whoever designed this cover got it just right. So kudos to the designer and the smart people who picked it to represent Mary Connealy's story.
I had hoped that the cover was just the icing on the cake and that the story would match my deliciously romantic hopes for this novel and it did just that! Sometimes nothing is better than a captivating romance within the pages of a new book :) especially when it's got that new book smell! All you voracious readers know what I'm talking about ;)
I believe that Mary outdid herself with this book!
~~~~~~~~~~~
The Mrs. Callie Kincaid is a spitfire of a women if there ever was one. Add an infant son to protect and nourish and a wildcat appears if he is in anyway threatened. She is far more than Seth Kincaid ever bargained for, but is apparently exactly what he hitched his wagon to even if he can't remember doing the harness up.

Not remembering a wife with a temper like Callie could be the death of him if he doesn't beat himself up first.

She and their son are everything he needs in a life that has been riddled with pain, mistakes and running away but the last thing Seth wanted was for someone else to suffer from his many mistakes.

But even with Seth being willing to make amends and atone for said mistakes, Callie is in more of a shooting mood than a talking one. A good miracle is going to be needed to bring these two back together again.

*Viva Vermont!*

This book review is for the novel "Viva Vermont! by Melody Carlson". This is the fourth book in the Carter House Girls series.

Book four and I am still loving this series!

~~~~~~~~~~
After all the craziness of the past few months the Carter House girls are finally getting to go on a vacation and DJ thinks it is going to be one relaxing weekend of hitting the slopes.
What she doesn't know is a few of the other girls have much different party type plans up their sleeves.
The party quickly gets massively out of hand and DJ and a few of the other girls feel it it up to them to stop the madness.
~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the things I like about Melody's books is the fact that she always includes some kind of lesson weaved into the story. The series keeps you entertained and reading until the last page while still looking forward to the next book!

Pick it up and see for yourself!

Almost the weekend! Hope you are enjoying the start to yours!

Love Finds You in Mackinac Island Michigan *A Blog Tour*

This book review is for the novel "Love Finds You In Mackinac Island Michigan" by Melanie Dobson.

Let me just start off by saying that I am a HUGE fan of the "Love Finds You" series which is published by Summerside Press.

The cover of this novel immediately drew me in and made me want to read the story, as it reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Anne of Green Gables. Any Anne fans out there like me??

Anyway, back to the subject at hand, I loved this book! It is such a great love story wrapped up in so much more! I loved the old feeling and the historical vibe of the story while it still maintained your interest in the goings on of the characters. And you could still somewhat relate to them. I was drawn into the story from the very first page and kept trying to guess what was up with the main male character.

I felt for Elena as her mother tried to force her toward THE eligible bachelor and you find yourself rooting for her to be able to break free from what feels like a prison. No one wants to marry someone that they don't love but it obviously happened many many times back in the days of this book setting.

~~~~~~~~~~
Elena Bissette, has an adventurous streak to her. She is tired of the endless mind-numbing chit chat all of the matrons and socialites choose to engage in and longs to be able to go off an explore the beautiful island that she calls home for the season. However, Elena's mother has one thing on her mind and it isn't letting Elena run wild.
She has one very particular bachelor in her cross hairs and determines that Elena shall snag him and in doing so, shall secure the families place in society once again. With the family failing so drastically financially they look to Elena to save the family fortune and good name with a well placed match. Elena has plans of her own, which do not include being forced into a loveless marriage. She meets a handsome stranger and finds herself falling for him as they work together to solve an age old mystery. But could each of her two paths end up leading her to the same destination in the end?
The Director's Cut
This book review is for the novel "The Director's Cut" by Janice Thompson. It is the third book in the Backstage Pass series.
I really enjoyed the book but it took me a few chapters to get into it and the characters. I kept feeling like I should have read the other two first. Except for that fact, however, I really did enjoy Janice's characters and how much you can't wait to turn the next page to see what happens!
She has created very lovable characters and it was fun to see a few of them that I recognize from one of her other books.
I have never read anything by Janice that I did not enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~
Tia Morales is good at her job, no scratch that, she is GREAT at her job. But outside the film set, she can't seem to quite get her feet underneath herself. She is used to being able to give the orders and people jumping to do them. In real life, however, it doesn't always work out this way. Take for example an over eager mother trying to set her up with a too handsome car insurance agent or brothers who are taking far longer than they should to do her home renovations. Or...her having feelings for a handsome cameraman but being unsure what to do about it. For Tia life is just seems to be easier on the screen.
~~~~~~~~~~
Like I said I really enjoy Janice's novels! They can quickly suck you into whatever world she is trying to create with her characters and not only are they interesting but they are a truly fun read. I always look forward to her books and this one is no exception. A definite recommended read!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
Glamorous Illusions ~A Blog Tour Posting~
This book review is for the novel "Glamorous Illusions" by Lisa T. Bergren.
It is the first book in the Grand Tour series.
I have never read anything by Lisa before but I'm not sorry that I did. I love most things French and European so this book was a treat for me!
Lisa very much knows how to draw you into her stories and keep you reading till the ending.
I am also a fan of Historical fiction and this novel is set in 1913 so that was a plus for me as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Cora Kensingtons life isn't what she expected it to be. Things have gone from bad to worse for her at home and then a huge bomb launches itself at her life and all she thought she knew.

After getting invited on a grand tour of Europe, which she accepts, things will be put into motion far beyond Cora's control. Acepting this trip is the first step down a new path for Cora. There will be roadblocks and bridges like there are on every trip but the good could far outway the challenges for her if she is willing to take that leap.
~~~~~~~~~~
I like how the book is written from Cora's perspective and really I just liked it overall.
Pick up a copy of the book for yourself and make sure to check out Lisa's website!
