*The Maid Of Fairbourne Hall* Blog Tour

This book review is for the novel "The Maid of Fairbourne Hall" by Julie Klassen.

I have never made it a secret that I am a huge fan of Julie's work and I have to say she has more than done it again!

If you even remotely love Regency set novels then you will love this book! I almost liked this better than her previous book "Girl In The Gatehouse".

Julie always manages to keep you invested in her characters and anxious to find out what happens but at the same time you don't want the story to end.

~~~~~~~~~~
Margaret Macy stands to be a very wealthy woman upon her next birthday. Her stepfather, however, has a great many plans for the fortune about to befall his step-daughter. The only thing he needs to make his plan come to fruition is for her to marry his nephew. And he plans on getting her to that by any means necessary.
Margaret is more desperate for escape from him and his evil plans than even he knows or plans for, though.
Even though her escape plan involved posing as a maid instead of a well-to-do young women, she never actually planned on having to do the grueling work of a maid. What makes her new life even more shocking is the fact that she is now a maid in the home of two former suitors. If that doesn't make her life there precarious enough, her stepfather is hunting her every step, trying to force her out into the open so he can make sure she marries his nephew before her birthday comes and she is free of him.
This book is so funny is some places and so hold your breathe anxious in others that you just really have to read it for yourself to even begin to imagine how great it really is!
Julie always manages to re-create this period of time perfectly and this book is no exception!
~Stealing Bradford~
This book review is for the novel "Stealing Bradford" by Melody Carlson.
This is the second book in the Carter House Girls series.
Once again Melody delivers a great story!
~~~~~~~~~~
All of the girls in Carter House couldn't be more different from each other. Most of them have fashion in common but otherwise they are total opposites. They are all just starting to get to know one another and perhaps find common ground when one particular boy divides the group.

DJ is already having enough trouble figuring out what the heck went wrong with Connor when the drama of Bradford, who was dating Rhiannon, then dumps said Rhiannon for Taylor.

All the girls take a stand against Taylor for the dirty backstabbing against Rhiannon, who doesn't agree with the bashing of Taylor. She can't stand what she did but feels like she should still be treated with compassion as Christ calls for.

DJ ends up rooming with Taylor and being let in on some personal secrets that Taylor hasn't told anyone else so she feels stuck in the middle between the rest of the girls and Taylor.
~~~~~~~~~~
This book in the series had no end of drama, secrets and happenings. It kept me engaged from start to finish and I look forward to the rest of the books in the series!
~Sixty Acres and A Bride~
This book review is for the novel "Sixty Acres and A Bride" by Regina Jennings.
This is Regina's debut novel and I absolutely loved it! I can't wait to see what she comes out with next.
The novel is based off of Ruth and Naomi and Regina does a great job with it!
~~~~~~~~~~
Rosa Garner and her mother-in-law, Louise Garner, arrive home from Mexico they are penniless and find out they owe four years of back taxes on the family held farm.

Rosa, somewhat lost in this new land, determines to do everything she can to help and make sure that her mother-in-law never regrets the decision to bring her along on this journey.

Unaccepted by some and feeling like she doesn't belong at times, Rosa, is a spirited and determined woman despite her obstacles. She is unused to the customs and doesn't know the particulars of the Ruth and Boaz chapter of the bible but finds herself living out a smiliar circumstance thanks to her mother-in-law.

But like, Ruth, Rosa handles herself with grace and long suffering.

The Boaz to her Ruth, Weston Garner, finds himself a partner in this story while still grieving his own losses, he's not sure how to give his heart to this intriquing woman and might lose her before he's really gained her.
~~~~~~~~~~
There are so many nuances to this book. Not only the parralel to Ruth and Boaz, but family matters, heart, feeling foreign in a foreign land and learning to turn the other cheek even when you don't want to. I give a huge thumbs up to Regina! Great debut novel! I encourage all of you to read it for yourselves!
*Mixed Bags*
This review is for the novel "Mixed Bags" by Melody Carlson.
It is the first book in the "Carter House Girls" series.
I will admit to being a big Melody Carlson fan! I read the entire "On The Runway" series which featured some of the girls from Carter House Girls. As much as I loved the last series I knew I had to give this one a try as well. It was well worth it even though I breezed through the first book, I loved every minute of it!
I think some of Melody's books are geared toward a younger set than myself but I love them non-the-less and think you would too.
~~~~~~~~~~
Desiree or DJ as she would rather be known, is the first occupant of Carter House. Her mother passed away and her dad didn't seem to want her around after his new wife had twins. Finding herself shipped away to her grandmother, DJ feels out of place already as she is somewhat of a tomboy and her grandmother is a retired famous fashion model.

Somehow having DJ staying with her leads Mrs. Carter to get the great idea to take in girls as borders in her home and teach them refinement and possibly make them famous models.

As one after another beautiful and mostly wealthy girls come through the doors of Carter House, DJ only starts to feel more inadequate and boyish.

Nothing she does makes her Grandmother fully approve of her and she worries she is losing herself in the process of conforming to someone elses standards. Is looking nice and having her hair done something she wants for herself or is she just doing it to finally fit in?

Will anything help fill the void she feels in her life?

Can six teenage girls, who are vastly different, manage to get along and have a peaceful time?
~~~~~~~~~~
Come along on DJ's journey from self recrimination to self discovery and possibly a faith filled life and find out!
Once again I have to give kudos to Melody!
Loving this series already,
Jenny
~Hearts Safe Passage~
This review is for the novel "Hearts Safe Passage" by Laurie Alice Eakes.
I am just loving books by Laurie! She is so descriptive in her writing and you can really imagine yourself in the time that she is writing about.
~~~~~~~~~~
Phoebe Lee had a dream for her life, the only one she has, to be a midwife. When her sister-in-law hatches the crazy scheme of going to sea, in the midst of a war, to find and free her husband, she tries to drag Phoebe with her.

What Phoebe doesn't realize is that she might be going alone on this crazy journey whether or not she agrees to the plan or not.

And the not so gentle way she will be forced to comply is not something she would want to face if she knew.

What she finds herself landing in the middle of, however, is far more treacherous than she could have ever imagined.  Her mind, body and heart might very well be at stake.

Rafe Docherty is out for vengeance and blood. Despiste his daughter's safety or the fact that he needs to turn to God and give up the quest for vengeance he is dead set on.

Can Phoebe help change his mind or will he expose the cracks in her own faith instead?
~~~~~~~~~~
I love great at sea adventures!! This one is right up there with all my reads :)
Be prepared to smell and feel the salty breeze on your face!
Laurie will make you feel like you are riding the waves right along with her characters and diving right into the crazy adventure. This book has it all, intrigue, adventure and romance!
Pick up a copy and see for yourself!
Hoping you have a great day!
Jenny
Words Spoken True
This book review is for the novel "Words Spoken True" by Ann H. Gabhart.
This is my first read of Ms. Gabhart's and I'm so glad I picked it up!
Set in the 1850's this book will appeal to anyone with a love for historical fiction. I wasn't always the biggest fan of this genre but I find myself loving it more and more!
~~~~~~~~~~
Adriane Darcy knows what she wants and how she wants things done. Her father's newspaper is one of the most important things to her. She absolutely cannot imagine her life without any of this. It is what she has known and what she continues to want for herself, or so she thinks. Sometimes the heart tries to pull you in a direction that your head simply won't accept.

Blake Garrett might be impulsive but he has a good heart and everything in him wants Adriane. Even with the way she feels almost nothing will stop Blake when he has decided he wants something. Whether it's the story he's after or the girl, Blake never gives up.
~~~~~~~~~~
I love all the twists and turns in this book and the wonderful historic quality to it. It is always so interesting to read something that is set so far back in time.
I recommend you pick up this awesome book for yourself and go along this newsprint covered adventure with us!
